Discuss how the elastic, electric and magnetic hysteresis will be affected when handling the mould base at various steps (transporting, dipping using robotic arm, heating) of the process.

Propose different destructive and non-destructive techniques can be used to identify quality
(e.g. external cracks, internal cracks, colour variation, properties) of following components/
parts or products. Assume that you have provided a standard data sheet on theoretical values
of each properties.
a. Final rubber product (assuming thinner tank shape)
b. Mould base
c. Roller guides and stand welding joints
A 10,000 kw turbo-generator operating at rated capacity receives 52,000 kg/h of steam at 2.90 MPa and 310oC, exhaust is at 0.007 MPa. At 1.2MPa and 230oC, there are actually extracted 20% of throttle flow for regenerative heating of feedwater. The generator efficiency is 95%.

For an ideal engine, find:

a. The quantity of steam extracted, kg/h

b. The work of the engine

c. Thermal efficiency

For the actual engine, find:

d. The temperature of feedwater from the open heater

e. Combined engine efficiency

f. The approximate enthalpy of exhaust steam and its quality

A compressed air tank contains 5 kg of air at a temperature of 80 °C. A gauge pressure meter on the tank reads 300 kPa. Determine the volume of the tank and state the assumption made

A tank with a volume of 0.2 m3 contains 0.5 kg of Nitrogen. The temperature is 20°C. State your assumption and calculate the density and pressure of the Nitrogen gas inside the tank. Is the calculated pressure absolute or gauge pressure? If a gauge pressure meter is fitted on the tank, state will be the reading of the meter

A pressurised cylindrical container has a sealed cover plate fastened with steel bolts as shown below. The internal pressure p in the thin cylinder is 1900 kPa, the inside diameter D of the cylinder is 250 mm and the diameter db of the bolts is 12 mm.

4.1 If the allowable tensile stress in the bolts is 70 MPa, find the number of bolts needed to fasten the cover plate. /3/

4.2 If the diametral change of the cylinder shell is limited to 0,025mm, determine the thickness of the shell plate required. (ESteel = 200 GPa) /3/

From the range of sizes given below select the minimum standard thickness of plate to be purchased for the manufacture of the cylinder. /1/ 8mm; 10mm; 12mm; 16mm; 20mm; 25mm; 30mm; 35mm

A Tram used in San Francisco has a mass of 300 tons has a tractive resistance of 45000 N as shown in the figure below.

a) Calculate the total force required to accelerate the tram uniformly form 18km/h for one minute over a distance of 750 meters up an incline 1 in 150.

b) What is the maximum power developed by the locomotive under those conditions?

c) Calculate the angular velocity of the wheels under conditions of maximum power is found to be 191 rev/min. What toque is the locomotive developing and what is the diameter of the driving wheels?

A point moves in a straight line with simple harmonic motion. When it is 500mm to the right of the mean position and moving to the left, the velocity is 3m/s. When it is 1 meter to the left of the mean position and moving to the right, the velocity is 2m/s. Determine the amplitude.

An engine 200 mm bore and 300 mm stroke works on Otto cycle. The clearance volume is 0.0016 m3. The initial pressure and temperature are 1 bar and 60°C. If the maximum pressure is limited to 24 bar, find : (i) The air-standard efficiency of the cycle (ii) The mean effective pressure for the cycle. Assume ideal conditions

Is it possible to paint the edges of an n-gonal prism with 3 colors so that each face has all 3

colors and all the edges of each vertex have different colors if a)n= 2018; b)n= 2019?
