he goes ½ mile due east and then turns left and travels ¾ mile in a straight
direction in degrees did he travel in going the ¾ mile?
The man has traveled one mile E then later two more miles E, for a net of three miles E. He traveled five miles S and later nine miles N for a net
distance of four miles N.
He has traveled two legs of a 3–4–5 right triangle. No equation is necessary.
The hypotenuse of the right triangle represents the position vector from his starting point to his current position.
He is now five miles from his starting point in a northeasterly direction.
