Plane stress is defined as a stress condition in which the normal stress, 0, and shear stresses, Orz and Oy z, oriented perpendicular to the x-y plane, are considered to be zero. The body's geometry is roughly that of a plate, with one dimension significantly smaller than the others.
The Mohr circle is used to calculate the stress components and, that is, the coordinates of any point on the circle acting on any other plane passing through and forming an angle with the plane. Two ways may be employed for this: the double angle and the Pole or origin of planes.
The beginning and spread of fractures in a material caused by cyclic stress is referred to as fatigue failure. Once a fatigue crack has formed, it increases a little amount with each loading cycle, resulting in striations on some portions of the fracture.
