A Design of Single Reduction Spur Gearbox An input shaft connected to the motor rotates at 1200 rpm, while the output speed must be 570 rpm. The contact force between the gears is transmitted through the pressure angle of 20°. The radial force is 321,90 kN. The material for both gear and pinion is 817M40. 1.1 Briefly state the problem. (3) 1.2 State the design specification considering the following design factors: 1. Functionality, 2. Size, 3. Safety.
1.1 The speed of shaft Ns =1200 rpm. The output speed No =570 rpm. The radial angle ("\\phi" )=200. The radial force (Fn)=32190N. The material is the same for both the gear and the pinion; 817M40. Hence the modulus of rigidity and Young's modulus are the same for both gear and pinion. Hence the input shaft is connected to motion and the input shaft is connected to pinion as it is a speed reduction element. NS = NP=1200 rpm; NO = Ng=570 rpm
1.2 a) According to the functionality, these spurs gears are designed to speed reduction as which means transmission mostly depends on the number of teeth of the gear and the pinion. The teeth factor and the module; pressure angle is the factors that have to consider.
b. According to size, the pitch circle diameter and circular pitch, and face width are the factors to consider.
c. According to safety, the stresses induced in the pinion due to power transmission have to be considered. As pinion is small, its safety and condition are enough for the gear to withstand the working conditions. According to stresses, the material should be selected and the strength of pinion.
