Of course, the life on earth would not stop if people did not elaborate vector calculus. However, it is widely used in physics that found broad applications in machinery and devices that became an important part of our civilized life.

So, vector calculus is used at least in Fluid Mechanics, General Relativity, Quantum Mechanics, Electrodynamics. The development of the last field of science would be impossible without vector calculus because it allows calculating fields inside and outside conductors, insulators, etc.
