In most cases in an experiment, the experimental mass of a substance is calculated by subtracting the masses of the dish and foil that the substance would be later put into from the final mass(mass of the substance, dish and foil)

this means that if in an experiment,

mass of dish and foil = 14.02g; and

mass of dish and foil and substance = 21.45g

the experimental mass (in this case, NaCl) = mass of dish and foil and substance - mass of dish and foil = 21.45 - 14.02 = 7.43g

this is how experimental mass is calculated
