An Arrhenius acid is any species that increases the concentration of "H^+" or protons in an aqueous solution while an Arrhenius base is any species which increases the concentration of "OH^-" in aqueous solution.

When an aqueous solution of HCl(an acid ) is made, it dissociates into "H^+"and "Cl^-" . Consequently, an aqueous solution of "(NH_3)" dissociated into "OH^-" and ("NH^{4+})" . The above equation results into a salt and water.

The above solution does not conform into Arrhenius theory since it is only limited to acid-base theory.
