Post transcriptional modification is a biological process in eucaryotic cells in which an RNA primary transcript undergoes the further maturation. This process faciliates the transport of the processed mRNA from the nucleus and prevents it from degradation. There are 3 main modifications:
1). 5'- mRNA capping. Nucleotide guanine is linked to mRNA via 5' - 5' triphosphate linkage. Then the guanosine is methylated on the 7th position of the carbon atom
2). Cleavage and polyadenylation of 3' end
3). As there are regions called introns which do not code for proteins, they are spliced from the primary transcript.
