Causes of poverty
There are a number of factors causing poverty. Conflict is one of the most common forms of risk driving poverty today. Large-scale, protracted violence seen in areas like Syria can grind society to a halt, destroying infrastructure and causing people to flee. Hunger and malnutrition also cause poverty because people lack the strength to perform work. Inequality and marginalization also cause poverty in disadvantaged areas. In countries where health systems are weak, easily preventable and treatable illnesses like malaria, diarrhoea, and respiratory infections can be fatal, especially for young children. Climate change contributes significantly to poverty because it leads natural resource instability.
