Covid 19 pandemic has brought devastating effects in many countries. Covid 19 pandemic has impacted the environment indirectly through the societal activities. As a measure of controlling the spread of the coronavirus usage of masks by people has intensely increased since the virus was discovered in Wuhan China in the year 2019. Proper disposal of masks has not been possible due to lack of government regulations and irresponsible behaviour of people. Improper disposal of masks into the environment has increased the levels of environmental pollution. The impact on the environment brought about by this unwarranting behavior has further increased heaping of gappages more especially in towns and cities where proper urban planning is not in place like in slums found in urban centres.

In a nutshell, societal activities have increased the the impacts of covid 19 on the environment. Unless there exists regulations to manage usage and proper disposal of masks there will be continual heaping of gabbagges in towns and urban centres
