Reflect on the COVID-19 pandemic, and identify the positive and negative environmental impacts resulting from the pandemic; indicate how societal activities have facilitated these impacts.

Covid-19 pandemic has brought a lot of environmental impacts both negative and positive. The following are some of the positive environmental impacts that have been brought about by covid-19 pandemic.

(a)   Covid-19 has led to water pollution in that the lockdown led to closure of some industries and these industries dispose their water bodies therefore, with the closure of the industries there was reduction of water pollution.

(b)  The pandemic led to reduction of noise pollution. With the installation of lockdown due covid-19, there was reduction of noise pollution because the noise from machines, vehicles and workshops was no more.

(c)   Finally, the pandemic has led to reduction of air pollution levels. This is because the with coming of the pandemic which in turn led to lockdown the gases which are produced by industries and which are harmful to the environment reduced.

On the other hand the pandemic led to the following negative impacts to the environment;

The pandemic has led increased plastic waste where by the containers which are containing sanitizers are not recycled leading to environmental pollution, the pandemic has also led to increased consumption of water due to frequent hand washing.

Societal activities has led to these impacts by; using a lot of water when washing their hands and even leaving the tap water running, after using the sanitizers, people have not been recycling the plastic bottles.

Finally, with the coming of the pandemic people could not pollute when they are at home in great percentage than when they are in industries.
