Punishment is a term that refers to any change that occurs as a result of a conduct that decreases the likelihood of that action occurring again in the future. Positive or negative reinforcement can be applied to several educational methods. After a behavior has occurred, positive punishment entails presenting an aversive motivation. When a student speaks out of turn in class, for example, the teacher may penalize the student for interrupting. This form of punishment will have a positive effect on the learner, causing him or her to change their undesirable habits.

After a behavior has occurred, negative punishment comprises taking away a desirable motivator. When the student from the previous case speaks out of turn again, the teacher immediately informs the student.Because of their misbehavior, they will be required to miss recess. Many people are also opposed to whooping and shouting at youngsters in order to prevent undesired behaviour. I am also opposed to it since it would make the learner feel rejected and alone, which will not lead to a change in behavior.

As a result, if punishment occurs promptly after the act and is given consistently, it is more likely to result in a reduction in behavior.
