You are interested in studying how the color of a room might affect
student performance on exams. Describe the experiment you would design to investigate this. Be sure to define and identify each of the following: independent variable, dependent variable, the control group, and the experimental group. Additionally, define the term confounding variable and explain how you might solve with the problem of at least two confounding variables in your study.
The psychological impact of color tends to be investigated in a wide range of studies. The experiment, in this case, will be that students will be put in a colored room and another in a neutral-colored room to test their performance. The experiment group will be the students that will spend time in the colored room, and the control group will be the students that will spend in a neutral colored room. The independent variable is the color orange, and the dependent variable is the student’s performance. The confounding variable impacts the dependent and independent variables.
