The main role of operant conditioning is to help psychologists to understand how behaviour is learnt. It also help to explain why reinforcements can be used so effectively in the learning processes and how schedules of reinforcement can affect the outcome of conditioning.

Some skills learnt from operant conditioning such that behaviorism viewed psychology as an objective science that studies behaviour without reference to mental process.
