Language

I am a hardworking, focused, and rueful person; I come from Cape Town, where I was born and raised. Afrikaans is the language of my heart; it Is one of the most spoken languages in my hometown and the community I come from. I also speak English and Xhosa; I leant English from my parents and in school. Afrikaans is my first language and one of my favourites. I leant Xhosa neighbours while I was young. The three languages have remained my favourites and help me interact with friends, community members, and school. English is the common language that I use primarily in school. I often use Afrikaans when interacting with my grandparents and community members who don’t understand English.

Afrikaans is the language that I use primarily while at home. I agree that these languages reflect the person I am because I use them to interact; through this language. I have developed self-confidence and understand the community I come from and the importance of using good communication skills and choosing the correct language to address others based on the language that I know. Learning Xhosa was tough, but I managed it; as a result, this has helped me be creative and good Lerner.  English is a language that I leant from home and later advanced in the classroom as a subject. English learning process has also helped define my education abilities, learn to solve problems, and develop critical thinking skills and creativity to overcome other challenges in life. Indeed, these languages have helped define me as a person who can socialize with others in different situations regardless of my background. The languages I have learned determines my background. It is essential to learn the language and use it effectively because it is a tool for communication and helps define our personalities and address situations.
