Every person, group, family, and community has assets. According to Swenson (2021), everyone possesses an intrinsic power that can be described as life force and transformational capacity. The individual, as well as the individual's surroundings, is examined in a strength-based approach. The strength-based approach, for example, examines how systems are set up, particularly where power imbalances exist between a system or service and the people it is supposed to serve.
