Thembi is 12 years old. When she was younger, she used to eat anything she felt like and never seemed to gain weight. Recently, she saw on the bathroom scale that she gained two kilograms during the past few months. Her mother did not look worried and just told Thembi that because she is in her early adolescence, it would be natural for her to gain some weight. Her mother reassured her that there was nothing to worry about, but that it may help to exercise a bit more. Thembi has since started to walk three kilometres per day to prevent her from gaining more weight. She is also more careful with what she eats and now chooses an apple to snack on instead of the usual packet of chips. She also drinks six glasses of water daily.
