Internet technology makes the reproducibility of information possible in ways not possible before the invention of the internet Discuss.
Reproducibility means that a result obtained by an experiment or observational study should be achieved again with a high degree of agreement when the study is replicated with the same methodology by different researchers. Internet was invented in the late 1960's. Before then it was hard to reproduce information and it involved much paperwork, and large costs of transportation. After invention of internet things were made easier to reproduce by automating data analysis, publishing all codes allowing public access thus making information easily reproducible, standardizing and documenting experimental protocols, tracking samples and reagents, disclosing negative or convoluted results and lastly increasing transparency of data and statistics.
Data reproducibility is significant is that it creates more opportunity for new insights. This is because you need to make changes to the experiment to reproduce data, still with the aim of achieving the same results.
