Write a short note on the following graphic formats and state one (one) example under each? i. Vector graphics ii. Raster graphics b) What is the difference between Multimedia Software and Multimedia Hardware? c) State the difference between the following and state any two (2) examples under each? i. Lossless and lossy ii. Symmetrical and asymmetrical
i. Vector graphics - images constructed with special dependencies allowing scaling in wide range. An example is letters (fonts) on a computer: no matter what the scale is, the letter will be always sharp.
ii. Raster graphics - images constructed with a rectangular grid and dots (pixels) at corresponding coordinates. An example is a picture taken on your phone's camera.
b) Multimedia Software - programs and applications used to create multimedia products (products that contain audio and video components).
Multimedia Hardware - hardware (electronic graphics tablets, pads, pencils, cameras, microphones) used to create multimedia products.
c) i. Lossless - without loss, the original file created by its authors is the same as the file you use, an example is FLAC, ALAC audio formats.
Lossy - with losses, compressed files, and example is MP3, AAC audio formats.
ii. In UI/UX, symmetrical design means symmetry in its literal sense, including symmetry in shape, colors, and content arrangement. An example is apple.com and amazon.com websites. Asymmetrical is an antonym of symmetrical. An example is mod.io and play.google.com websites.
