The four units that makes up Wlan(802.11) include;

1. Stations- it comprises all devices and equipments that are connected to the wireless LAN. Station include Wireless Access Points or simply access points (AP) are generally wireless routers that form the base stations or access and clients which are a workstations eg computers

2. Basic Service Set. This are group of stations communicating at physical layer level. It depends on modes of operation ie independend Basic service set devices communicates peer to peer while infrastructure the devices communicate with other devices through access points.

3. Extended Service Set- It is a set of all connected Basic Service Set

4. Distribution System-this connects access points at the extended service set. An Access Point in one Basic Service Set may communicate with another access point to exchange frames

for stations in their respective Basic Service Set.
