First, the exhaustion of IPV4 IP addresses has stimulated the use of IPV6 as IPV4 successor.
However, since IPV6 was not readily used for exchange of information between IPV4 and IPV6 applications, IPV4 was not entirely eliminated but merged with IPV6. This is to be so until dual connectivity is supported before IPV4 is disregarded.
