In the area of the computer network, term server form factor refers to the shape, size and package of the hardware device.

The three form factor are listed below-

Tower case :

  • It is housed in traditional tower case.
  • A typical server tower case is 18 inches high, 20 inches deep, and 9 inches wide. And it has room inside the motherboard, five or more than five drives and other components.

Rack Mount:

If we require more than few servers then we need rack mount. The rack-mount servers are designed to save space when we need more than few servers in the confined area. It is housed in small chassis, that's designed to fit into a standard 19-inch equipment rack.


Blade Server:

It is designed to save more space than the rack-mount. It is a blade server which is which is mounted along side on the other blade server on the blade chassis which itself fits into a standard 19-inch equipment rack. It holds six or more servers which is depending on the manufacturers. The benefits of the blade server is that they drastically cut down the amount of cable cutter.
