  1. Physical Space constraints - The labs use old computer models which have a large form factor, this makes them to cover lots of space in a room. This affects seating arrangement, cleaning of the rooms. The solution to this is to buy small from factor computers that are fast and cover less space.
  2. Hard disk drive problems - since these computers consist of moving parts hard disk failures become a common problem and are inevitable in frequently used systems. This problem can be avoided through minimal of movement especially the CPU to avoid disk failures.
  3. Thin Client based problems - Because thin clients are much smaller they tend to use external power adapter cables which are frequently prone to overheating. Also the entry and exit points are prone to failure to dust being loose affecting a client"s running process.
  4. Software and Operating System maintenance- most users fail to update the necessary updates leading to sluggishness of computers. This problem can be avoided by educating users to be aware and self driven to take note on any updates.

Star topology is commonly used in a typical lab, it is composed of the hosts, the hub as well as the transmission lines between them to form a graph with with star. In this topology all devices are connected to a hub and end up talking to each other at the same time. But it is up to the system to determine if the incoming data meant for a destination or ignore if its for another destination. This causes a lot of noise known as collision domain. The solution is to employ a switch for a LAN.
