The Hobbesian principle of sovereignty edicts whole domination of power within a given terrain and overall establishments of civilian or clerical authorities. The distinct attributes of sovereignty are permanence, unity, exclusiveness, impress scriptability, all-comprehensiveness, indivisibility, inalienability, and illimitability or absoluteness.

By the quality of perpetuity or permanence, it means that quality in virtue of which the country’s sovereignty endures without stoppage so long as the country itself exists.

By exclusiveness, it means that the virtue of which there can be the but-one ultimate power in the state-run, lawfully entitled to the citizen’s obedience. To hold then would be to refute the code of the unity of the government and to admit the likelihood of an imperium in imperio.

By all comprehensiveness advocates for universal sovereignty within the country’s territorial bounds. The sovereign power spreads over all people, things, and associations within such national boundaries excluding those over which the public has willingly complied to surrender the workout of its authority.

By the quality of inalienability, it means that the country’s attribute under which it cannot concede away any of its vital elements minus self-destruction. Thus, sovereignty can no more be alienated.

Finally, sovereignty is inalienable since it is the actual essence of the country’s personality, and its estrangement would involve the vanishing of that personality. Therefore, sovereignty according to Thomas Hobbes is the ultimate power of a country. It is the vivacious component of its being, and to estrange, it would be equivalent to committing suicide.
