At what point do you take the reading on the vernier scale of the vernier callipers?

Take a look at the photo below:



1) put the object between the jaws

2) count how many full millimeters (in our photo) there ate between the zero of the upper scale and the first vertical dash of the lower scale (yellow mark, 7 mm)

3) count how many hundredths of millimeters there are between 0 of the upper scale and the point where the dashes of the upper and lower scales align (blue mark, 0.13 mm)

4) add values from steps (2) and (3): 7+0.13=7.13 mm.
