How do you take the recording on the vernier callipers and mircometer screwguage instruments?

1) Put the object of measurement between the jaws of the caliper/anvil and spindle of the micrometer and draw them toward each other so the object fits well between them

2) Using a vernier caliper, measure the distance between 0 of the upper scale and the first dash of the lower scale. Then measure the distance between 0 of the upper scale and the first point where the dashes of both scales align. Divide this distance by 100 and add to the first value.

3) Using a micrometer screw gauge, rotate the sleeve and thimble till the dashes align and add the distance likewise you did in the previous step.
