1. Principles of electromagnetism: there are to fields, magnetic and electric, that form the electromagnetic wave as they both change with time.
2. Electromagnetic waves are different in amplitudes, frequencies, wavelength, intensities. For example, the penetrating power depends on the frequency (like X-rays). Some characteristics are better for radio communication, some are better for heat, or lighting (like waves between 700-380 nm).
