A hub (historically they were first) simply connects different computers together by means of wires.

A switch connects computers of other network devices by filtering and forwarding data packets to the destination device.

Switches are more complex and advanced than hubs and allow forwarding data from transmitting device to receiver ignoring other devices in this network, which hubs cannot do: data sent from one computer will be received by all computers connected to the network by means of hub. Thus using hubs is insecure and not very efficient.
