Question #293033

Define rhe term dielectric constant and explain why water is not suitable as a delectric

Expert's answer

The dielectric constant of a material is the ratio of the capacitance of the capacitor with the material between the plates to the capacitance with vacuum between the plates.

A dielectric material should be an electric insulator.

Water is not an electric insulator because it allows flow of charges through it.

Therefore water cannot be used as a dielectric material.
