Question #153411

Define (i) electric field strength, (ii) electric potential.

How are these quantities related?

Expert's answer

The electric field intensity at any point is the electric force experienced by unit test charge placed at the location.

The electric potential at a point defined as the amount of work done in bringing a unit positive charge from infinity to that charge.

The electric field strength is

E=VdE=\frac{V}{d}

Here V is the potential difference and d is the distance.
