(a) Olthuis tended to mean that worldview is a set of fundamental beliefs through which we view the world and our calling and future in it.” He further says that it is the integrative and explanatory structure by which instruction and complaint are judged, the average by which genuineness is accomplished and trailed.
(b) Olthuis says the following on the nature and characteristics of worldview; firstly, Olthuis who quotes Dilthey sees world view as quite literally that is having a vision of the world. Secondly, Olthuis's text also confronts the modern man with the bitter truth in that man does not see how to shape the world, how to bridge the gap between wavering conviction and reality. Lastly, Olthuis sees worldview as a mediator between faith commitment and all other modes of human experience.
(c) Worldview plays the following functions in my life: reflects the personality and behavioral patterns of my life, it provides structure to my thoughts and actions and it also plays the role of giving me answer to key issues like the meaning of life.
(d) Worldview is a broader concept than a culture which is more difficult to change as it involves fundamental beliefs. Different people have different beliefs on the issues of HIV and AIDS. From such worldviews, I understand the following on the issue of HIV and AIDS: Without knowledge of worldviews, and without the recognition of HIV and AIDS as a social issue, we cannot make the link between the two; Worldviews are only one of several vital factors in a successful public communications campaign. This is intended to complement current best practices in HIV/AIDS awareness programs and lastly, some of the HIV/AIDS communications resound more deeply with certain worldviews.
