Answer to Question #204504 in Philosophy for Jen

Question #204504
  1. Make a list of at least three debatable issues that interest you, and write a short paragraph about each. Write about what you know and want to know about each issue, and explain how each topic may be important to a current audience. Aim to select topics that are complicated and debatable. Make sure these are issues that you could research academically (so arguing to add a stop sign in your neighborhood would not work) and that you could argue practically (so stating that all guns should be banned would not work). At least 100 words
  2. Discuss which topic you think would work the best for this project and why. Identify some research questions you’ll ask as you seek to learn more about your topic. You can also pose questions to your classmates about your topic. At least 100 words
  3. Identify the stance you intend to take about this issue. Also, discuss any potential biases, obstacles, or disagreements you might face in an audience. At least 100 words

Civil Rights

The Civil Rights Movement refers to one of the most significant conflicts in American history, which is still ongoing today. Civil rights are the legal freedoms, privileges, and safeguards that are supposed to be afforded to all persons. However, civil rights activists say that racial inequity is engrained in American life as a result of realities such as economic disenfranchisement, police brutality, and mass incarceration. The Civil Rights debate pits advocates for greater racial equality against those who want to maintain or develop a white racial hierarchy.

Climate Change

The argument over climate change focuses on the impact of human activity on the earth's temperature, as well as its effects on weather patterns, plant life, animals, and human health. On one side of the debate, the majority of scientists agree that human activity is to blame for climate change. On the other hand, some journalists, political officials, and industry representatives contend that either global climate change does not exist or that climatic shifts are caused by natural weather patterns unconnected to human activity.

Vaccines

Vaccines are a type of medical treatment that can be used to immunize people and groups against infectious diseases. The vaccine debate arises from a sociological phenomena known as vaccine hesitancy, as well as a well-organized anti-vaccination, or anti-vax, movement. Those in favor of vaccines point to significant scientific evidence that immunizations are both safe and effective, whilst those opposed to vaccines think that vaccines are either unnecessary or dangerous.
