How far is the lighthouse from the ship at that time?

Distance =Time  ×speed(knots)

\frac{17}{60} ×12 knots =3.4nm

From the initial point and at the point the navigator saw the
Lighthouse are corresponding hence the ship was sailing N53°W
(360-307)degree

To get the distance of the Lighthouse ;

Sin 53°=\frac{opp} {3.4nm}

Distance =3.4 ×0.8=2.72nm

=2.72NM
