Answer to Question #193207 in Geometry for Jaco Visagie

Question #193207

On a coordinate plane, sketch a quadrilateral object by plotting and connecting coordinate points A (-5, -1); B (-1, -2); C (-2, -5) and D (-6, -4).

3.3  Dilate the object by a scale factor of 1.5. Write down the coordinate points of the image. Is there any mention of symmetry between the object and the image? Explain. Describe and explain the similarity between the object and the image.

"A'=(-7.5,-1.5);B'=(-1.5,-3);C'=(-3,-7.5);D'=(-9,-6)"

when homothety with a modulus of a coefficient other than 1, the linear dimensions change. Hence there are no symmetries. If the coefficient is 1 identical transformation (if the figure had symmetry, then the symmetry suits us). If the coefficient is -1, then we have the central symmetry transforming from the object into the image.in our case, the coefficient is 1.5 so that there are no symmetries

Scaling is a kind of homothety, and it preserves the angles, so the angles have not changed, i.e. A'B'C'D 'as well as ABCD is a parallelogram
