Researchers at Harvard business school found that the most important managerial behaviours involve two fundamental things: enabling people to move forward in their work and treating them decently as human beings. What do you think of these two managerial behaviours? What are the implications for someone like yourself, who studying management?
The first principle of helping employees move forward applies when a manager shows genuine support in developing the expertise of individual employees. A manager can train a waiter or waitress to be polite, welcoming and kind to improve their professional skill. On the other hand, treating employees as decently human beings entails respecting them and giving them a good working environment. It also entails motivating them through good work packages and motivation in terms of decent language. The implication of this is to help us become better managers in future.
