H&M and Starbucks Ethics and Social Behavior

Introduction

The ethics and social behavior of a business have a significant bearing on the success of a business. The most successful and profitable companies have ensured they adhere to business ethics and have engraved the best social behaviors for their employees to ensure the success of their business. Starbucks and Hennes & Mauritz are both leading business enterprises in retailing beverages and clothing, respectively.

Integrity

Honesty in every business is paramount. For Starbucks, it owes its customers full disclosure of the ingredients used in the beverages customers are buying. H&M, which retails clothing, ought to label its clothing with the materials used. Preferences vary in clients, and by being honest with the ingredients or material, clients get to pick what is best for them.

Respecting employees

Employees play a critical role in linking the customers with the owner of the business. They are the company's face, and respecting them goes a long way in ensuring they give excellent service to customers. H&M and Starbucks have some of the best perks in the work environment, such as health benefits, flexible working schedules, and discounts, among others. H&M and Starbucks have both been recognized worldwide among the best employers and workplaces.

Branding

A company's branding boosts its image, which translates to higher sales and consequently higher profits. Corporate branding has been embedded in the social behavior of H&M and Starbucks. They get professionals who do an excellent job at branding the companies.

Corporate social responsibility

Corporate social responsibility is one of the best ways for corporations to impact their customers, the environment, and society (Trong Truan, 2012). H&M is particular about protecting the environment, and it has decided it will be using organic fiber. H&M intends to reduce the chemicals it uses in production. Starbucks is helping veterans, refugees, and military spouses secure employment that would help them better their lives.

Excellent customer service

Customer service is the basis of running a successful enterprise. Popular business slogans such as 'the customer is king' are not just slogans. H&M and Starbucks value their clients, and they strive to satisfy them in an effort to retain business. If you walk into an H&M retail store, you will meet a smiling attendant who will welcome you and attend to you until you finish shopping. Starbucks trains their employees on outstanding customer service, and they have mastered keeping the customer happy (Marie, 2019).

Conclusion

H&M and Starbucks may be dealing with different commodities, but they are both businesses. Social behaviors and ethics apply to both of them; the only difference is the application methods. For instance, integrity as an ethic is important to both enterprises, but Starbucks must be honest about ingredients and H&M clothing materials used.
