Covid 19 has posed a number of challenges for both employees and employers. What changes in OHS should be included in the employment laws in your country? Critically examine and explain why they are needed.
Some changes in Occupational, Health and Safety need to be included in the employment laws to reduce the spread of pandemics like Covid-19. These changes are:
Sick leave: In case an employee gets infected with COVID-19, the employer should allow the patient to stay home until he recovers from the disease.
Work place safety: To cater for uncertainty of occurrence of a disease, it is the duty of the employer to ensure the work place is always clean irrespective of whether there is a disease outbreak or not.
Working from home option: In the case of the elderly employees, the employer should allow some of them to work from home since most of them do not have a strong immune system to fight the disease. Later such employees can be recalled back to work when the sread of the disease drops.
