Traditionally most organizations applied a hierarchical structure in the relationship between the top management and junior employees. However, in modern times, this has changed since organizations are nowadays employing a lateral hierarchical structure. In this mode, the information from the top management is propagated across all departments without consideration of the existing hierarchies. Technological advancements have played a critical role in this change. For instance, the inception of emails, WhatsApp and Twitter have made it possible for companies to accommodate all staff members in a common communication platform. As a result, this has helped to improve teamwork and communication efficiency in most organisations. Despite the benefits, the continued use of the technology is a major threat to human capital since machines are increasingly replacing human labor in organizations.
