Of the seven tasks an HR manager does, which do you think is the most challenging? Why?
Of the seven tasks an HR manager performs, retention may be the most challenging. Retention involves motivating employees to stay with the organization for the longest period of time. Employees are inherently diverse and may form a complex workforce, posing a challenge for the management in finding common ground. Even with solid strategies to ensure great employee experience, a few employees may still become disengaged as the programs don’t motivate them. There is also the perception that "grass is greener on the other side" which makes employees always open to job opportunities with seemingly better pay or culture. This is especially amplified by the changing workforce, comprising of mostly millennials. Younger workers are ready to hop from job to job for quicker career advancement, making retention tougher. Also, high employee turnover raises concerns over a company and is a costly exercise for any organization because high potential employees leave a gap.
