The goals of victim support strive to: (a) Prevent or reduce secondary victimisation by the criminal justice system by providing information on matters such as progress with the investigation; the functioning of the court system; and the rights of victims in the system. (b) Identify symptoms of anxiety disorder and refer victims to counsellors and other professional services where necessary. (c) Prevent repeat victimisation by advising and guiding individuals to maintain a preventative lifestyle, and by creating awareness among the public of the risks of crime. (d) Reduce the psychological trauma victims experience by providing emotional support and practical assistance, either immediately or shortly after the incident.
