The different types of evidence
There are four main types of evidence. They include, testimonial, documentary, demonstrative, and real evidence. Testimonial evidence is usually provided by witness who first take an oath or affirmation that they will tell the truth. It is a kind of evidence that is generally seen on television. Documentary evidence is contained in documents and it consists of records, business records, or other types of records which information is recorded. Demonstrative evidence is the kind that is designed to assist the trier of fact in helping to create the context for other evidence. Demonstrative evidence can include things like photographs, film recordings, or x-rays. Real evidence is also seen on television but is like an object. Real evidence can include the weapon used in a crime, for example, or a piece of jewelry that is the subject of a lawsuit.
