Discuss two functions of the law
Establishing Standards
The law is responsible for ensuring acceptable behavior in the society. For instance, some activities are considered as a crime in certain societies, because the society (through the legislative body) has determined that it will not tolerate certain behaviors that injure or damage persons or their property. For example, under a typical state law, it is a crime to cause physical injury to another person without justification doing so generally constitutes the crime of assault.
Resolving Disputes
In a society full of people with different needs, wants, values, and views it can be challenging to avoid disputes and the law provides a way for resolving them.
