Empirical research refers to a type of research that is based on the observation followed be measurement of a phenomena, as directly experienced by the researcher. The data collected during this research may be compared against a theory or a hypothesis but the results are still based on a real-life experience. An example of this kind of research is an experiment conducted by using a music website survey on a set of audience who are exposed to happy music and another set who are not listening to music at all, and the subjects are then observed. The results derived from such a research will give empirical evidence if it does promote creativity or not.
