Male slaves were worth more to the owner compared to female slaves. Despite both being torn from their homeland and forced to partake grueling labour that took a toll on their physical and mental well-being, male slaves were considered as more valuable workers as they were able to perform labor intensive tasks such as building houses and plowing fields. Female slaves were often brought to keep their male counterparts company. Thus the slave owner considered male slaves more worthy due to their physical strength.
