During the year between 1200 and 1450, African states exercised power by using their royal leaders. For instance, Mali was ruled by a skilled military leader called Mansa Musa. His royal control put down all every rebellion over the gold-salt trade. Additionally, the Mandinka leadership exercised centralized system such as chiefdoms and kingdoms among others. Overall, several African states exercised centralized system of control in their organizations.
