A campaign that transformed the ANC into a mass movement since mid twentieth century?
South Africa's ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), has been in power since the country's democratic transition in April 1994. The South African Native National Congress (SANNC) was created on January 8, 1912, in Bloemfontein, with the goal of fighting for the rights of black South Africans. In 1923, the group was renamed the African National Congress (ANC).
While political stagnation characterized the organization's early years due to power disputes and a lack of resources, rising repression and the entrenchment of white minority control invigorated the party.
