Do you think the visual arts are still as useful to convey messages to the public as they were in the 18th and 19th centuries? Explain your answer.
I believe so, the visual arts continue to be just as useful in getting messages across to the
public, probably more so than in the past, as artists have more liberties to get their message
across and more ways to do that.
Previously, in general, art was monopolized by religion and governments, these generally
anti-democratic (Greece in exception), so the message sent was always the political or religious
bias of the time. Thinking about Europe, USA and other countries with a certain freedom of
expression, today we have art as an important tool to bring up certain important issues that were
previously taboo, such as racism, same-sex marriage, prejudiced positions of religious entities,
among many others
