The immortalization of Dr. Jose Rizal is through his sacrifices and tasks for the independence and freedom of the Philippines. Utilizing his great principle and conviction, he was not afraid and delivered his message to Filipinos of the need to struggle and fight for their independence. His retraction letter was marked with the repudiation of the writings he had made regarding the abomination of masonry and about Roman Catholicism. Moreover, he changed and embraced the catholic faith. Through these acts, his principle as a strong-willed man is questionable. Also, this retraction tarnishes his name to be fit to be called a national hero. Hence despite all the sacrifices he had made for his country, the retraction questions his principles and the right to be viewed as a national hero.
