Nationalism contributed to the World War I because Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who was the heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire was assassinated.
The warfare itself changed during WWI when the military adopted Artillery. This entailed very large guns, which were improved during World War I along side anti-aircraft guns that could shoot down enemy planes. Some large artillery guns were able to shoot in nearly 80 miles away
