Philippines was acknowledged as a self-governing, sovereign nation by the United States, which removed its authority over the archipelago as colonialist. It is not a coincidence that the Philippines shared a liberation day with its previous colonizer. But this overlay was short-lived. When the Philippines altered the date of its Freedom Day holiday in the year 1962, it patent yet another stage away from a long antiquity of western interfering.
